I'm a night kind of person; I stay up late and like to enjoy my evenings. So naturally, I decided that I was going to take a walk on thursday night. The only problem with this... it was 20 degrees out! Oh my goodness, by the time I was done, I was absolutely frozen! I don't like the cold. Actually no, I take that back, I like the cold... because it gives me an excuse to sit by the fire with a blanket and a hot cup of tea :) Well as I started walking, the first thing I did was look up. The sky looked amazing! I could see so many stars it was unbelievable. It was very foggy out... oh wait no, that was me breathing :) BRRRRRR. Anyways, I walked to a little trail over by my house that leads to a small lake called Shady Lake (yes I know it sounds sketchy...). I would love to tell you that I had this moment of revelation where I realized something of significant important, but the truth is it is was just nice to be outside, take some time just to relax from all the hustle and bustle of break and just chill. Although there was one thing that I noticed that made me think. I happened to pass by this small tree which was surrounded by some bushes. It had a one branch extending out to the side but other than that was very small and bare. I kinda thought about how right now I'm kinda like this tree. I look down from where I am right now and I feel like I'm at the top of the world, looking down at all the little bushes and begin to branch out. But then I realize that there is so much more out there for me to experience and become. Like this little tree which will continue to grow and branch out, so will I into the man God wants me to be.

"The truth is it is was just nice to be outside, take some time just to relax from all the hustle and bustle of break and just chill." You know what? That's totally enough. I'm glad you had the thought about the tree as well, but even if that "deeper" revelation hadn't arrived-- simply allowing ourselves to escape the busyness and get some quiet time is GOOD in and of itself. Jesus did that. There's a story that talks about people CROWDING to see Him after he'd healed people, but when Peter went to bring him out to the people, Jesus was nowhere to be found. He'd gone outside to pray and be quiet and just talk to God.
ReplyDeleteWhen the world is clamoring-- even, and especially then-- find moments to rest. We need those.
Thanks for this.
